A dead hot tub is one of the heaviest, most awkward things a homeowner can be stuck with. It’s bolted to a deck or sunk into a patio, it weighs hundreds of pounds dry, and it isn’t going anywhere on its own. A Palmetto Bay homeowner had been staring at one for two years before calling us. Here’s how a hot tub removal in Palmetto Bay actually gets done — a roughly 900-pound spa, gone in an afternoon.
The Job: 900 Pounds in the Backyard
The spa sat on a paver patio in a fenced backyard — long dead, full of stagnant water until the homeowner drained it, and far too heavy and bulky to move in one piece through the side gate. This is the situation almost every old hot tub ends in: too big to handle, too heavy to drag, and not something the regular trash or bulky pickup will ever take.
The only way out is to take it apart where it sits. That’s exactly what we do.
How We Did It
- Power disconnected first. Hot tubs are hardwired to a dedicated electrical circuit. That has to be safely disconnected before anything else happens — if there’s any doubt about the wiring, that’s a job for a licensed electrician, not a pry bar.
- Cut down to movable pieces. Using saws, we broke the shell, cabinet, and base into sections a crew can actually carry. A 900-pound spa becomes a series of manageable loads.
- Carried out through the side yard. Piece by piece, around the house, out to the truck — no damage to the gate, the pavers, or the landscaping.
- Sorted for recycling. The motor, pumps, and metal components were separated for recycling rather than landfilled.
An afternoon’s work, and the homeowner had their patio back for the first time in two years.
What Hot Tub Removal Costs
Hot tub and spa removal runs $350 to $600 in most of Miami, depending on size and access. The big variables are how the spa is installed (freestanding vs. built into a deck) and how tough the path out is — a wide-open side yard is straightforward, while a spa boxed in by a screen enclosure or up on a second-floor terrace takes more work.
